Percy Jackson – Your best/favourite book of the year.
A Very Large Expanse of Sea by Tahereh Mafi
I’m not a very big contemporary reader but I buddy read this book with Lexie and I was so surprised when reading this book. It was such a quick read but dealt with so many hard topics such as Islamophobia. This book infuriated me, almost made me cry, made me laugh and smile from ear to ear and I really loved this book. I highly encourage every single person to read this book.
Annabeth Chase – A book where you were in awe of the authors genius
Illuminae by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman
For anyone who doesn’t know this book is not what you would call a traditional novel. This book is in a multimedia format. This whole series is a dossier full of surveillance footage, messages, the perspective of an Artificial Intelligence which was very interesting. I love how this author duo made me feel so much for these characters even though we don’t have a true narrator because we are just reading about the sequence of events that happened. I adored this series and every book got 5 stars.
Grover Underwood – A book you loved that’s underhyped
The Mentor by Lee Matthew Goldberg
The mentor was creepy, mind blowing, terrifying, it made me cringe from some of the descriptions in this story. It was so creepy it made me take a step back from reading so I could comprehend what I was reading. This was sickening and I loved it. What does that say about me? Honestly I don’t know. This is a crazy horror/thriller novel that I wouldn’t recommend to absolutely everyone but if you’re a fan of horror, gore and really fucked up shit this one is probably for you.
Luke Castellan – A book that you thought you hate but didn’t
The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern
Honestly I have seen such polarizing things about this book and I was scared to pick this book up but I truly adored this book. When I first started this book I turned to my partner and said I’ve heard this is a bad book and very confusing and I’m scared but once I began reading I fell in love. This is a love letter to books and readers. It was stunning and I truly loved the characters involved in this story. I still am unable to gather my thoughts into a coherent review but I’m trying!
Chiron – A book that will always feel like home
Harry Potter by a transphobic bitch.
I am aware of all the Jk Rowling tweets as I am writing this blog post but for a very long time I have separated Harry Potter from the author. Harry Potter is my home and has always been a safe place for me. As a child from an abusive household I read these books to escape my life and I will always love Harry Potter but I can tell you right now I will not be lining this woman’s pockets with more money. It deeply hurts that someone who created such a magical world can hurt those who are vunerable but I am standing with all of those who have been hurt by her comments. You are loved, you are a part of our community and we all love you.
Tyson – A book with a sibling relationship you adore
Winter of The Wolf By Martha Hunt Handler
This is my most recent read. This follows Bean a young 15 year old girl who has lost her brother Sam. Throughout this story we do see flashbacks from her relationship with her brother and it was the purest most wonderful sibling relationship I have ever witnessed. This is definitely a book that you need to check out.
Thalia Grace – A book where time froze when you read it
A Curse So Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer
Reading this almost 500 pages of a book made time freeze for me for a whole day. I devoured this story in about 12 hours I was sucked in and nothing could pull me out of it. I had about 50 pages to the end and it was bed time and I was like to my partner ” no wait, please I’m ALMOST finished” I needed to finish this book before I went to sleep. This is a beautiful story that I absolutely loved and adored and need to get to book 2 as soon as possible.
Nico Di Angelo – A well loved book you love too
The Poppy War by RF Kuang
I heard about this book through BookTube and I needed to get my hands on it. I haven’t heard any bad things about The Poppy War. I absolutely loved this story. This is a very triggering story full of many triggering content so please, please, please be careful going into this story. This was such an atmospheric read and I loved every second of it apart from Chapter 21. Chapter 21 was a horrific read but is based on a true period of history that shows the true horror of war.
Calypso – A book you’d be marooned on an island with
NeverNight By Jay Kristoff
This is one of my favourite books of the year and would love to be marooned on an island with it. This took me quite a while to read and I loved every second if reading through it slowly because generally I fly through books. I’d like to slowly read through it again and hopefully take more from this than my first read through.
Rachel Dare – A book you predict you will give 5 stars
LifeLike By Jay Kristoff
Another Jay Kristoff book on this list? Fuck Yes. I absolutely love Jay Kristoff and I think he is becoming a new favourite author of mine so I need to try out some more of his books. So this is the next series of his I want to tackle and start making my way through after I finish the Nevernight chronicles .
Jason Grace – An upcoming book you’d get hit by a brick to read now
Blood & Honey by Shelby Mahurin
This is the sequel of Serpent & Dove that I bought on the day it came out and read it that day. I have been waiting a whole year for this book I would die to get an early copy of this book. Honestly I would allow the publisher to hit me in the face with a brick REALLY hard to get my hands on this book. Can you tell that I loved Serpent & Dove,
Piper Mclean – A book you loved that someone convinced you to read
Heartstopper volume 1 by Alice Oseman
Again I’m not a big contemporary reader as you can tell so when I hear literally ALL of BookTube was screaming about this graphic novel series so when I saw it in my library I just picked it up to give it a chance and adored this cutesy romance graphic novel.
Leo Valdez – The funniest book you’ve read
This is Going To Hurt By Adam Kay
This is a non fiction book and one of my most recent reads. This story is all about Adam Kay’s experience as a Junior Doctor. This book made me physically react so many times such as laughing, shuddering from disgust, shaking my head at some of the experiences and tearing up at the end. I really loved this book and gave it 5 stars and I have a lot more empathy for doctors and for those who ended up leaving and having other jobs such as Adam who eft and became a comedian.
Hazel Leveque – an old book/ book you read a long time ago but still love.
Percy Jackson and The Olympians by Rick Riordan
You can’t have a Percy Jackson Book Tag and not mention a Percy Jackson book. I read this series while in primary school and I still love this series to this day and I need to reread this series and finish off the Heroes of Olympus series.
Frank Zhang – A book you were afraid to reach the end of
Pretty Girls By Karin Slaughter
This book was brutal. Trigger warnings for almost every single thing you could think of. This is such a crazy, horrifying, traumatic psychological thriller. Throughout the duration of my read I was so on edge and felt really uneasy and terrified t find out how this was going to end because in all honestly I had a bad feeling this wasn’t going to end happily. Obviously I won’t tell you if I was right or wrong about this series but please be careful if you are going to read this one.
Reyna Ramirez Arellano – a book everyone hates but you love
Throne of Glass By Sarah J Maas
This series has so much hate so I was very weary but really intrigued to pick up this series and I did really liked/enjoyed this book compared to most people.
Octavian – a book you punch without hesitation
Motherless Child By Glen Hirshberg
I would gladly punch this book every time I see it. Going into this story I was expecting a truly terrifying novel involving vampires and that is not what I got at all. I really dislike this book and am so disappointed about this one.
Percabeth – A book with the best romance
The Simple Wild By K.A Tucker
I adored this story so much. The romance is beautiful. It ends up being enemies to lovers. This book made me laugh and sob. I read this back in January and I still remember this story to this day and it is definitely one of my favourites of the year.
Lauren from The Creatively Bookish
Binx thinx from binkthinx
