May Day Book Review

Book: May Day
Author: Josie Jaffrey
Publication date:
Genre: urban fantasy

Synopsis

If the murderer you’re tracking is a vampire, then you want a vampire detective. Just maybe not this one.

It’s not that Jack Valentine is bad at her job. The youngest member of Oxford’s Seekers has an impressive track record, but she also has an impressive grudge against the local baron, Killian Drake.
When a human turns up dead on May Morning, she’s determined to pin the murder on Drake. The problem is that none of the evidence points to him. Instead, it leads Jack into a web of conspiracy involving the most powerful people in the country, people to whom Jack has no access. But she knows someone who does.
To get to the truth, Jack will have to partner up with her worst enemy. As long as she can keep her cool, Drake will point her to the ringleaders, she’ll find the murderer and no one else will have to die.
Body bags on standby.

May Day is the first book in Josie Jaffrey’s Seekers series, an urban fantasy series set in Oxford, England.

My Thoughts

I absolutely loved this book. For such a long time I have been wanting to read more vampire books and this is the perfect one if you love vampires but also mystery thrillers.

Jack Valentine is a brass, honest, mess of a vampire and I loved her so much.

Throughout this story we meet many characters who I enjoyed getting to know. They were all very unique and felt like real people to me they were that developed.

We follow Jack and her crew who are investigating the death of a man who was thrown off a building.

The world is very interesting. The vampires are unknown to the human world so that added element to the story was very interesting as it put our characters under a lot of pressure to find this killer before they are exposed.

I had so much fun with this story. All of the characters are so funny and had me laughing the while way through this book.

There was so much LGBTQIA+ rep in this story and I loved it.

If youre looking for an LGBTQIA+ urban fantasy full of vampires this is the one for you.
