Everything changes when the Scareground returns to Greenwich. When Nancy and her best friend meet the fair’s spooky owner, Skelter, and discover a world full of dark magic and mystery, she must confront her greatest fears to get to the truth. But is Nancy ready for the secrets the Scareground will reveal?

My Thoughts

I haven’t read a middle grade book in such a long time. I was really excited for this book when it landed in my email. This is a fun quick read that I read in a few sittings.

Nancy is a great main character to follow, she has been adopted by the Crumpets and is happy with the life she is living until the fair decides to come to town and things start to get weird. The Crumpets get agitated about the fair which leads to lots of questions for Nancy and also the reader. I wanted to know what was happening and why was the fair being there such a big deal for the crumpets.

Nancy has one friend Arthur and their relationship is so cute. They are both pretty lonely but have bonded together and we see their friendship grow even more throughout this story which I adored.

When we get to the fair things take a darker turn which I had a funt ime with. I love spooky scary things so it was fun to read abut the fair and the people inside the fair. Everything feels very magical and scary but as we move through the story and meet the fair folk we learn that a lot of the things happening are carefully planned illusions which was really fun to read.

The mystery of this story kept me reading and I had a fun time trying to figure out what was happening. I did have an inkling on how this story was going to go it was very clear to me but because I am not the intended audience of the book this didn’t hinder my enjoyment at all.

One gripe with this book that I had was that it was very overwritten. When I started this story the over description were bugging me but as I got used to the writing it didn’t bother me as much after two chapters or so.

So if you’re looking for a fun, mysterious read with a little bit of creepiness this one’s for you.
